Driving the empty winding highway tucked up against the rocky Baja Coastline, I began to think of Mexico as a romantic destination. In the rearview, the 75-foot tall Christ of Sacred Heart towered above us & ahead our lobster dinner overlooking the endless sand.
Mexico Travel Guide
Recommended Cities: Mexico City, Oaxaca, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, & many more that I have yet to explore.
Minimum Recommended Road Trip Time: 3 weeks.
One Bucketlist Item You Cannot Miss: Road-tripping the Baja Peninsula and beach camping along the way.
Things to Consider Before You Go: You need Mexican auto insurance to drive in Mexico. I always use Baja Bound. You do not need a tourist visa if you plan to only visit the Baja Peninsula on your road trip.
Estimated Backpacker Budget
On a Shoestring: $30/day
Flashpacker: $45/day
Backpacker Luxury: $50/day
Keep in mind these are backpacker budgets. On a shoestring expect to be eating street food, sleeping in hostel beds, & skipping the more expensive tourist attractions. Backpacker Luxury opts for private rooms, eats mostly in restaurants, and splurges on activities. Flashpackers are the middle ground & often do a mixture of both.
Mexico is good for travelers looking for cultural experiences, ancient ruins, idyllic beaches, & mouth-watering food.
