Let’s face it the main reason we all love to travel is the food. Weird, tasty, delicious snacks you can’t get anywhere else. Eating local cuisine is one of the easiest ways to get to know a culture. & Mexico is renowned worldwide for its unique and delicious food. So, I set out in search of the best food in Rosarito, Mexico.
I was determined to find some authentic Mexican cuisine. The kind you can’t get back home in the States. & having just finished my Great American Foodie road trip I’d had more than my fill of American cuisine.
Continue your epic road trip along the coast of the Baja Peninsula with our massive month-long itinerary & all the tips you’ll need for car camping in Baja.
Rosarito is an up-and-coming neighborhood. A big part of attracting new residents is a thriving food scene. Currently, it’s not necessarily known for its culinary achievements, but I was determined to find some food worth eating in this beachy party town.
Here are the 5 authentic places you must-eat in Rosarito, Mexico.
The Best Eats in Rosarito, Mexico
Here’s a list of my favorite food stops in Rosarito, Mexico & the dishes you absolutely must-try.
1. El Nido
This place is number one on all the “best places to eat in Rosarito” lists for a reason.
It was hands down my favorite place to eat. So good, in fact, we went twice. & it’s equally delicious for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Rosarito Food Tip: It can be difficult to find places open for breakfast as most locals cook their first meal at home.
Aside from delicious chorizo and eggs, Machaca, and chilaquiles, El Nido sources local Venison and quail eggs for many dishes. El Nido also scores a 10/10 for ambiance. The whole place is jam-packed with foliage giving the restaurant a “jungle feeling”. Also, enjoy the multiple open fire stoves and man-made waterfalls.
2. Tacos El Yaqui
Universally, declared as the best taco stand in town. Just ask any local. If you’re looking for the best tacos in Rosarito this is the place to be. Get the grilled skirt steak and pinto bean taco.
3. Papas and Beer
Now hear me out…This is more for the margaritas than the food.
Papas and Beer is an obnoxiously large club sitting on the sand. It’s the kind of place I would typically avoid like the plague.
But I love a good margarita. & Papas and Beer gave me that. It was the perfect spot to grab a round of drinks & carne asada tacos while you watch the sun go down.
4. Popotla Seafood Market
I wrote a whole blog post about this neat little beach just outside Rosarito. It’s definitely the most unique place to eat in Rosarito and if you’re a lover of seafood it’s also the tastiest.
Roam around the fisherman tables and buy some fresh seafood & then you can have one of the nearby restaurants grill it up for you to enjoy on the sand.
5. Originales Popotla Tamales
When we think of Mexican cuisine, Americans think tacos. But the tamale is actually much more commonly consumed in many parts of Mexico.
